I teach students of virtually all ages how to play piano using a playing based approach (as opposed to the more traditional "reading based" approach. This means that my students are immersed in the playing process from day 1 and within 3 to 4 weeks they will have a repertoire of songs to play without needing to read music. Each week we add to the repertoire piece by piece. It is a very enjoyable way of learning piano and I wish this method was available when I was learning as a child. Before I take on any student I am required to conduct an informal interview process in order that the student understands more about the teaching process and how this method differs from the traditional approach. At the end of the day music should be fun to learn for everyone.
