Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) 2 day workshop

Mental health first aid is the help given to someone developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves. This course is a 12 hour award winning course developed at Australian National University by Betty Kitchener and Prof Tony Jorm. It has been well evaluated to improve the mental health literacy, reduce stigma and increase helping behaviours. It has been shown to increase confidence of the participants in responding to mental health crisis. Topics covered include: Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Suicidal Behaviour, Acute Stress Reaction, Panic Attacks and Acute Psychotic Behaviour.

 

The course will be facilitated by Diane Hickey who is an experienced mental health professional and a certified MHFA trainer. Courses to be held on the Sunshine Coast 19/20 Oct, Brisbane 19/20 Nov, Gold Coast 25/26 Nov 2009. Cost $250, all refreshments and lunch supplied as well as manual.
