Free Sleep Apnoea Information Session

Queenslanders suffering sleep apnoea can learn about new treatments for the condition at a free sleep apnoea information session at The Windsor International Hotel on Thursday November 12.

Estimates put the number of sleep apnoea sufferers in Australia at between 3 and 15 per cent of the population, or somewhere around one million people, but less than one tenth of these cases are ever diagnosed.

The condition, a disorder that causes a disruption to breathing while asleep, can result in serious associated health issues such as cardiac disease, increased hypertension, weight gain and diabetes. It affects around 1 in 20 men and 1 in 40 women.

The number of Australians diagnosed with the condition is increasing year-on-year but more than half of all sufferers give up on CPAP treatment after just six months because of issues caused by an ill fitting mask. Sleep Apnoea can often be extremely damaging and debilitating and many people are unable to successfully use the standard CPAP products.

Two free information sessions at The Windsor International Hotel (2pm and 6pm), cnr Lutwyche road and Bryden street Windsor on Thursday November 12 will feature information on the risks and effects of sleep apnoea and related conditions as well as the benefits of new treatments currently available.
